Zulu Oil Hunt: Pursuit of 1 Billion Barrels Near Jakarta
The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKK Migas) explores the potential oil reserves from the Zulu Field in the Offshore North West Java (ONWJ) Block, stretching from the Thousand Islands near Jakarta to northern Cirebon. This area is estimated to have oil reserves of up to 1 billion barrels. According to SKK Migas's Head of Program and Communications Division, Hudi Suryodipuro, the potential of the Zulu Field needs further assessment, which will involve collecting additional data such as 3D seismic surveys, more appraisal wells, and core sampling data.
SKK Migas has directed Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), the operator, to expedite the 3D seismic activities, Hudi explained. "Additionally, it's worth noting that part of the area falls within a national park. The development planning stage will commence once the necessary data has been obtained," he stated on Apr. 26. The oil reserve potential at the Zulu Field was announced by Tutuka Ariadji, the Director-General of Oil and Gas at Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry. He mentioned that the field, which contains heavy oil, has oil reserves ranging from 800 million to 1 billion barrels.
