Indonesian Govt Transition: Backstage Negotiation Frenzy Begins
The transition of power from President Joko Widodo to Prabowo Subianto is officially underway. During an inspection of an infrastructure project in Mamuju, West Sulawesi, on Tuesday, Apr. 23, Jokowi announced his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition to the incoming administration of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming. "We are making preparations now that the Constitutional Court has rendered its decision [rejecting the presidential election results challenge], and we are just waiting for the General Elections Commission [KPU] to certify the election results officially," he stated. The KPU is set to declare Prabowo-Gibran as the president-elect on Wednesday, Apr. 24.
Jokowi also stressed that it is time for everyone to come together and move forward. He highlighted that the Constitutional Court's final and binding decision confirmed that allegations against the government could not be substantiated. "Claims of fraud, interference by security forces, politicization of social assistance, and lack of neutrality by regional leaders have all been untrue. It is crucial for the government," he said.
Earlier, Ali Mochtar Ngabalin, the Principal Expert at the Presidential Staff Office, indicated that President Joko Widodo would form and directly lead a transition team.
