Indonesia-China's Jakarta-Surabaya High-Speed Train Speeding Up
The Jakarta-Surabaya high-speed rail project will soon be underway. Indonesia and China are set to create a special team to construct it. Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated that this decision was made during the 4th High-Level Dialogue and Cooperation Mechanism (HDCM) meeting between Indonesia and China in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. "We've reached an agreement on the Jakarta-Surabaya high-speed rail project," Luhut shared in an Instagram post on Apr. 21.
According to Luhut, extending the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail to Surabaya is the next logical step. He pointed to the successful launch of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail, noting a steady increase in ridership since its inauguration, peaking during the recent Eid al-Fitr holiday period. "I hope China, the China Development Bank [CDB], and China Railway continue their financial support and technology transfer," Luhut remarked.
