Solar Energy Dominion: Masdar Eyes Key Power Project in Nusantara

United Arab Emirates-based Masdar plans to construct a 1.2-gigawatt solar power plant in IKN Nusantara, Indonesia's future capital city. According to Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia's Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister, this investment proposal was one of the key topics discussed during his meeting with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Apr. 19. "Masdar has experience with the floating solar power plant at Cirata, so this plan is more tangible," he said.
In a separate statement, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia noted that the solar power project would follow a business-to-business scheme. He mentioned that the project proposal is still in the finalization stage. "We've just expressed our interest," he said. Meanwhile, Darmawan Prasodjo, CEO of state-owned electricity provider PLN, confirmed that by August 2024, IKN Nusantara would be powered by renewable energy sources.
