The Sweetener for Apple Investment in Indonesia

President Joko Widodo is slated to meet with Apple Inc's CEO, Tim Cook, on Wednesday, Apr. 17. Minister of Communications and Information Technology Budi Arie Setiadi stated that the meeting will delve into Apple's investment prospects in Indonesia. "The specifics will be disclosed post-meeting; however, it's evident that this is a boon for Indonesia as our nation becomes an integral part of the technological advancement ecosystem," he remarked on Tuesday, Apr. 16.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita expressed hopes that the meeting would yield Apple's investment commitment in Indonesia. Furthermore, the government is prepared to offer special policies to Apple, specifically to offset local content requirements (TKDN).
Under this policy, the government will consider Apple's commitments to human resource education and technological infrastructure in Indonesia when calculating the TKDN of its products assembled or produced in Indonesia.
"They've already established three, soon to be four, what they call Apple Academies, which, in my view, yield quite commendable outputs, generating brainware human resources, fostering innovations for apps that can subsequently be utilized in other companies," he added.
