Summary

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has announced plans to integrate Indonesia's healthcare self-reliance commitment, particularly in medicine provision, into a forthcoming Government Regulation (PP). His statement comes in response to inquiries regarding the potential inclusion of medicine self-sufficiency in the National Formulary of the National Health Insurance System (JKN). "This will be reflected in the upcoming PP; stay tuned for updates," he stated on Wednesday, Apr. 3.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Health is currently reviewing policies to update the National Formulary (Fornas), which contains the list of medicines under the National Health Insurance program. The existing Fornas are under Minister of Health Decree Number HK.01.07/Menkes/1970/2022. The Ministry underscores that updates to the Fornas are imperative to keep pace with advancements in science, technology, and legal requirements, which align with studies on prevalent disease patterns in society.
