European Carmakers Racing to Build EV Industry in Indonesia
French car manufacturer Citroen will commence the assembly of electric vehicles (EVs) under the completely knocked down (CKD) scheme in Bukit Indah City, Purwakarta, West Java, on Jul. 1. Tan Kim Piauw, Chief Executive Officer of Citroen Indonesia, stated that Citroen is currently conducting trials for the EV assembly of a unit named X0. He claimed that the X0 had been successfully assembled, and after Eid al-Fitr, there would be testing for a unit called X1.
According to Tan, Citroen Indonesia will undergo four stages before entering mass production. "All of these trial productions will run until June. Our target is to commence mass production by July 2024," he said on Apr. 2. Following the local assembly, Tan mentioned that the Citroen E-C3 electric car units to be marketed in Indonesia will be CKD status. So far, the Citroen E-C3 has been imported as completely built-up (CBU) units from India.
