Summary

The House of Representatives (DPR) has ratified the Law on the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (UU DKJ), granting a new status to Jakarta, following the transfer of the national capital to Nusantara in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan. Heru Budi Hartono, Acting Governor of Jakarta, stated that the implementation of this status awaits technical regulations in the form of a Presidential Regulation to be issued by President Joko Widodo. "Further discussions will take place at the palace, perhaps not too long," he said on Apr. 1.

According to Heru, discussions regarding the agglomeration area outlined in the UU DKJ are also underway by the central government. Separately, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian stated that the formation of the Agglomeration Area Council aims to assist the government in addressing various urban challenges, such as heavy traffic and flood risks. "There are many common problems such as floods, transportation, waste, pollution, and other issues that require coordination, synchronization, and harmonization for development planning," he said in mid-March.
