Renault Enters Indonesia's EV Industry, Leveraging Japanese Alliance?

French car manufacturer Renault is set to increase its investment in Indonesia. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the Renault Group will establish an electric vehicle (EV) plant in Indonesia. According to Agus, Renault has completed a feasibility study and is ready to invest in producing EVs. "We have met, and they are ready to invest; they are committed," Agus stated on Mar. 29.
Agus highlighted that various government incentive policies support Renault's commitment to investment. Previously, the company awaited regulations on calculating EVs' local content requirements (TKDN). Renault is further solidifying its investment plans by issuing Industry Ministerial Regulation No. 6/2022 concerning Specifications, Development Roadmaps, and Provisions for Calculating the TKDN Value of Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicles. "This relates to incentives for market testing. They asked to be able to introduce several units for market testing," he said.
