Journey to Power: SEA's Largest Gas Plant Jawa-1 Ready

The Jawa-1 Steam Gas Power Plant (PLTGU), with a capacity of 1,760 megawatts, is now fully operational following successful plant reliability runs and net dependable capacity tests. John Anis, the Chief Executive Officer of Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (NRE), emphasized the unique features of the installation, stating that the Jawa-1 PLTGU could serve as a cornerstone in the energy transition. "It aims to achieve Net Zero Emission by 2060," he said on Mar. 30.
Managed by PT Jawa Satu Power (JSP), a consortium comprising Pertamina NRE, Marubeni, and Sojitz, the Jawa-1 PLTGU sees Pertamina NRE and Marubeni each holding 40 percent of the shares, with Sojitz holding the remaining 20 percent. This power plant integrates a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) with a 1,760-megawatt electricity generation unit consisting of two generators, each with a capacity of 880 megawatts. The second unit has been operational since December 2023. "We have completed all formal administrative processes," Asistia Semiawan, the CEO of JSP, stated.
