The Legal Battle Over Presidential Election Result Begins
Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (AMIN) National Winning Team filed a lawsuit over the 2024 presidential election results to the Constitutional Court (MK) on Mar. 21. Ari Yusuf Amir, the Legal Team Chairman, stated that the lawsuit was filed because the election process did not run fairly and justly. The team elaborated their arguments, evidence, and demands in a complaint document over 100 pages.
The team referred to rampant electoral fraud following Gibran Rakabuming Raka's candidacy as vice president alongside Prabowo Subianto. This arose due to President Joko Widodo's intervention in supporting his son's victory. This is evident from the massive distribution of social aid and the partiality of government officials and election organizers.
"If this is accepted as a strong argument, we hope for a re-vote," Ari said Thursday. Furthermore, the team demands a new presidential election without Gibran.
Meanwhile, Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD plan to file a lawsuit to the MK over the presidential election results on March 22 or 23. Their lawsuit is based on fraud and intimidation reports not addressed by the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu). "I want to be fair and have no other agendas," he said Thursday.
Mahfud added that they are not seeking victory through the lawsuit. "What we are doing with the MK is not about winning, but beyond the election. It's about the future of hundreds of years to come. Our democracy must be healthy," he said.
