VinFast’s Battery Subscription Strategy to Capture Indonesia’s Market

Summary

VinFast, a Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is set to introduce a battery subscription scheme in Indonesia. Tran Quoc Huy, VinFast Indonesia's Chief Executive Officer, stated that battery subscription presents a new business opportunity by separating the battery pack component from the car purchase price. "VinFast is committed to addressing the most concerning issue for electric vehicle owners, which is battery degradation," he said on Mar. 18.

According to Tran, if the battery health drops below 70 percent of its original capacity, VinFast will replace it free of charge. He is optimistic that this approach will enable VinFast to maintain optimal sales performance and generate higher resale value for its EV products. "By introducing this battery leasing model, we hope to create a more stable car ownership experience. This system also has the potential to make VinFast vehicles more appealing to customers concerned about EV value retention in the long term," he added.
