Prabowo's Beyond the 8 Percent GDP Growth Dream
Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia's defense minister and presidential candidate, has set ambitious targets for Indonesia's economic growth. Currently leading in the 2024 presidential election vote count, Prabowo aims for the country's economic growth to reach 7-8 percent within the next three to four years. "Over the next five years, I estimate that we can achieve eight percent growth, perhaps even more," he stated at the Mandiri Investment Forum 2024 on Mar 5.
To attain this goal, he promises to welcome increased investments and promote collaboration among business players. "Significant economic partnerships between large and small economies, cooperatives, market traders, farmers, or fishermen," he said.
Prabowo also emphasized the importance of addressing food and poverty issues to boost economic growth, intending to emulate best practices from China and India. "With rising demand and purchasing power, our economy will thrive," he remarked. His target is for Indonesia to meet domestic food needs within three years and become a food exporter within the next four years.
