Indonesia's Response to 70% Biodiesel Export Drop

Acting Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jisman Hutajulu, revealed a significant decline in biodiesel exports attributed to trade barriers imposed by the European Union. Jisman highlighted the EU Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR), alongside discriminatory trade policies involving anti-dumping tariffs and additional import duties, as key factors pressuring export performance. "It has dropped by as much as 70 percent," he disclosed on Feb 27.
Despite this setback, Jisman emphasized the positive contribution of bioenergy products to domestic clean energy consumption. He cited biomass, biogas, and vegetable-based fuels as examples, collectively accounting for 60 percent of the current renewable energy composition. "Biodiesel plays a crucial role in this bioenergy spectrum," he underscored.
