The construction of the new national capital city (IKN) in Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan, is progressing. Danis Sumadilaga, Head of the Task Force for Infrastructure Development Implementation of IKN, stated that the project remains in its initial phase until the end of 2024. This timeline follows Presidential Regulation No. 63/2022, which outlines the comprehensive plan for the new capital from 2022 to 2045.
"We're currently building basic infrastructure to support the development of IKN," Danis said on Feb 26. With a substantial budget of Rp 68.6 trillion allocated for the initial phase, the project is divided into 89 construction packages. Notably, progress for batch 1 has reached 74.29 percent, while batch 2 has achieved 23 percent. The construction of key facilities, including the Presidential Palace, has also seen significant advancement, with progress reported at 56.37 percent.
Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono reiterated that the physical progress of infrastructure development for the new capital aligns with the government's planned schedule and targets.
