New Game Rule Highlights Funding Mechanism Amid Lack of Support

The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry is crafting a funding scheme of US$40 million annually for the development of the national gaming industry. This initiative, named the Indonesia Game Fund, is outlined in Presidential Regulation No. 19/2024 on Accelerating the Development of the National Game Industry. The accompanying documentation specifies that the funding will be implemented through a matching fund scheme or venture capital. The guidelines for the Indonesia Game Fund are expected to be finalized by 2024.
The formulation of the Indonesia Game Fund scheme will involve the collaboration of the Communications and Information Technology Ministry, the Education, Research and Technology Ministry, the Investment Ministry, and the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry. Furthermore, the development of this scheme will seek the active participation of associations, companies, and local gaming communities. The Indonesian government is also planning to create a financing scheme involving banks and appoint a Public Service Agency (BLU) for Fund Management to pilot the financing of the national gaming industry. It is worth noting that this financing scheme is separate from the Indonesia Game Fund.
