Companies Keep Building Solar Rooftop Power Plants Amid No Incentive

Several companies have installed rooftop solar power plants (PLTS), exemplified by PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, which recently installed a rooftop PLTS with a capacity of 6.39 megawatts peak (MWp) to support its Tuban factory operations in East Java. The installation was carried out by Semen Indonesia's subsidiary, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk.
Lilik Unggul Raharjo, the CEO of Solusi Bangun Indonesia, said the adoption of solar energy reflects the company's commitment to sustainable development and serves as a substitute for coal in cement production processes. "The utilization of alternative energy aims to enhance eco-friendly products and improve the efficiency of both electrical and thermal energy usage," he stated on Feb 17.
Meanwhile, PT Xurya Daya Indonesia has successfully installed 150 rooftop solar power plants throughout 2023, collaborating with over 100 companies under a lease scheme without upfront investment. Eka Himawan, the Managing Director of Xurya, stated that these operational rooftop PLTS projects are distributed across 11 provinces, generating over 166 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy annually. "These rooftop PLTS installations help mitigate carbon emissions equivalent to 148 million kilograms per year," Eka said on Feb 10.
