New Rule on Rooftop Solar Power Plant Offers Dilemma for Stakeholders

PLTS atap Xurya Daya
Summary

New regulations regarding rooftop solar power plants (PLTS) are set to take effect soon. Andriah Feby Misna, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry's Director of Various New Renewable Energies, stated that President Joko Widodo has approved the revision of Ministry of Energy Regulation No. 26/2021 concerning Rooftop Solar Power Plants Connected to Power Grid of Business License Holder for Public Power Supply.

According to Andriah, the public will soon be able to utilize the electricity generated by rooftop PLTS based on the installed capacity. The regulations regarding the export-import of electricity with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN will be eliminated. Consequently, if rooftop PLTS produces excess electricity, individuals can no longer send it to the PLN system. "The emphasis is on utilizing the installed capacity for personal use and meeting consumer needs rather than exporting any excess electricity to the PLN system," she stated on Feb 6.
