RI Believe to Reach Manufacture Industry’ Decarbonization Sooner
The Indonesian government has set a decarbonization target for the manufacturing industry by 2050, a decade ahead of the national net zero emission (NZE) target by 2060. Putu Juli Ardika, the Industry Ministry's Director General of Agro-Industry, emphasized the active role that the food and beverage industry can play in achieving this national NZE goal.
According to Putu, four foundational strategies exist to achieve this target: transitioning to new renewable energy sources, effective energy management, electrification strategies in the production process, and using Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technology. He welcomed initiatives, such as the one undertaken by PT Niramas Utama in Bekasi, West Java, to transform the industry into green. "To enhance the industry's competitiveness," he added.
Niramas Utama is the pilot project in digitalizing production information management systems and energy monitoring to boost productivity and efficiency. Beyond optimizing business processes, this initiative aligns with the carbon emission reduction plan to support the attainment of NZE. Niramas underwent a digital transformation in collaboration with Schneider Electric and JETEC Indonesia through the EcoStruxure for Industry project. This project has improved energy efficiency and led to a 20 percent reduction in asset maintenance costs annually.
