Indonesian Government to Continue Gasification on 27 Power Plants

The Indonesian government continues its conversion of diesel-powered electricity generators to gas or the power plant gasification program. Jisman Hutajulu, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry's Director General of Electricity, stated that gasification is integral to using clean energy and efficiency in electricity provision.
According to Jisman, this program is a concerted effort to attract investor interest in participating in the gasification program of the state-owned power company PT PLN (Persero). The Energy Ministry, in collaboration with the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry and PLN, has compiled data on 25 existing gas-fired power plants (PLTMG) that are operational with a total capacity of 999 megawatts. One PLTMG is currently under construction with a capacity of 120 megawatts, and another PLTMG, the Huadi Cluster, is in the planning stage with a capacity of 1,150 megawatts. "The gasification program targets 27 gas-fired power plants with a total capacity of 2,269 megawatts," he said on Jan 25.
