RI’ Soaring Digital Competitiveness Still Sees Uphill Battle Ahead

The International Institute for Management Development (IMD) has elevated Indonesia's digital competitiveness ranking from 51st in 2022 to 45th in 2023. In the World Digital Competitiveness Ranking (WDCR) 2023 research, IMD positioned Indonesia ahead of India. According to IMD, Indonesia's digital competitiveness has steadily climbed 11 positions over the past five years.
Arturo Bris, the IMD World Competitiveness Center (WCC) Director, stated that in 2019, Indonesia ranked 56. He attributed this improvement to the success of significant digital transformation. "We hope this report can assist Indonesia in accelerating its digitalization strategy and sustainable economic development in 2024," he said on Jan 24.
The IMD WDCR, released in late 2023, compares the digital competitiveness rankings of 64 countries. According to the IMD World Digital Competitiveness 2023, the top five countries in digital competitiveness are the US, Netherlands, Singapore, Denmark, and Switzerland. The research also indicates that Indonesia's digital competitiveness surpasses several other Asian countries, including India (ranked 49), the Philippines (59), and Mongolia (63). However, Indonesia still lags significantly behind Singapore (ranked 3), Malaysia (33), and Thailand (35).
