Summary

Indonesia's Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry has established the Agency for Control and Quality Monitoring of Marine Products and Fisheries (BPPMHKP). This institution serves as the authority for ensuring the quality of marine products and fisheries through control and supervision mechanisms from upstream to downstream. "It's mandated by Presidential Regulation No. 38/2023 regarding the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry," Ishartini, Acting Head of BPPMHKP, stated on Jan 22.

According to Ishartini, BPPMHKP's responsibilities include certifying cultivated, captured, and processed fisheries products. The institution also conducts quality control for marine products and fisheries through inspections of the systems implemented by production and processing units. Quality supervision tasks are carried out through surveillance and monitoring processes to assess the consistency of system implementation in these units. "More than 404 inspectors from BPPMHKP undertake these efforts," Ishartini said.
