Warim Block: A Treasure Trove of Oil and Gas that Remains Untouched

The Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry is set to conclude the auction for the Warim Block in Papua, touted for its substantial oil reserves. Maruf Affandi, Coordinator of the Conventional Oil and Gas Work Area Development Task Force, announced that on Jan 17, the bidding process will be closed, with the government accepting document submissions until Jan 19. "Subsequently, we will evaluate whether the submitted documents meet the criteria for becoming the winner," he stated on Jan 17.
According to Maruf, the potential oil and natural gas resources in the Warim Block are estimated at 20 billion barrels per day (Bb/d). He mentioned that the Warim area has been divided into two work areas: Akimeugah 1 and Akimeugah 2. Maruf acknowledged the challenges posed by the terrain in developing the Warim Block project. However, he emphasized that the oil and gas potential in the region remains promising for further exploration. "Each area has approximately 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent."
