Govt Gears up to Build New LNG Plant as Arun Facilities Replacement

The Indonesian government is set to establish a new Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) processing and production facility in Sumatra to support the abundant gas production in the region. Tutuka Ariadji, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry's Director General of Oil and Gas, announced that discussions regarding the proposal to construct a new LNG refinery around Andaman have already been running.
According to Tutuka, the existing LNG facility in Arun, Aceh, cannot efficiently process the gas to be produced in Andaman and other areas due to its aging infrastructure and numerous damaged equipment. "Building a new LNG refinery is one option because not all parts of the Arun LNG refinery can be utilized," he stated on Jan 11. Tutuka emphasized that the responsibility for constructing the LNG refinery would not solely fall on the contractors. He mentioned that contractors could collaborate with other parties interested in investing or even with different entities. "It could be with anyone," he added.
