EV Giant BYD Enters RI Market with Ecosystem Development in Mind
China's leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, BYD, is set to launch its inaugural product in Indonesia. Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan announced that BYD will unveil its product on Jan 18. "Marking a new era for Indonesia," he said on Jan 12. Luhut highlighted that BYD has surpassed Tesla in sales and product quality across various lines.
In a separate statement, Liu Xeuliang, BYD's General Manager for the Asia Pacific region, expressed the company's intention to establish a manufacturing plant in Indonesia. According to Liu, BYD aims to bring its supply chain to streamline production. "We're confident in establishing manufacturing in Indonesia. When the Indonesian government announced its policies, we chose to establish our manufacturing rather than collaborate with other companies in Indonesia. This, of course, needs to be supported by appropriate policies," he said on December 2023.
