Rafael Alun’s Verdict: Negative Sentiment of Tax Officials
The Jakarta Anti-Corruption Court has sentenced Rafael Alun Trisambodo to 14 years in prison in a trial held on Jan 8. The former Head of the General Affairs Section of the Directorate General of Taxation for the South Jakarta Regional Office was found guilty of corruption, as stated by the presiding judge, Chief Justice Suparman Nyompa.
The judges also imposed a fine of Rp 500 million, which would be substituted with a 3-month detention in default and a restitution amounting to Rp 10.07 billion. This verdict came as Rafael was proven to have accepted gratuities and engaged in money laundering during his tenure at the Directorate General of Taxation under the Finance Ministry. The prison sentence issued by the judge aligns with the prosecution's demand during the trial on Dec 11, 2023. However, at that time, the prosecutors sought a fine of Rp 1 billion, substituting with six months' detention, restitution of Rp 18.9 billion, or seizure and auctioning of his assets.
