Pertamina Prepares to Increase Bioavtur Production Capacity
PT Pertamina's (Persero) subsidiary, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), has successfully developed bioavtur, also known as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The Cilacap Green Refinery has achieved the production of aviation fuel blended with Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Kernel Oil (RBDPKO) at 2.4 percent, yielding a volume of 9,000 barrels per day (bpd). Taufik Aditiyawarman, the KPI CEO, said the bioavtur output significantly reduces oil imports.
Taufik emphasized that Indonesia's airports collectively demand 21 million barrels of avtur annually. By incorporating a 2.4 percent RBDPKO blend, the need to import crude oil to produce avtur can be substantially diminished. "Our feedstock currently consists of a blend between imported fossil fuels and domestically sourced materials, alongside contributions from RBDPKO suppliers," he said, as quoted by CNBC Indonesia on Jan 2. Taufik added that production capacity would be escalated to exceed the 9,000 bpd benchmark, aligning with market demands.
