Will Daihatsu Indonesia Survive Crash Test Scandal?

The Indonesian government is awaiting the sampling results for Daihatsu car products. This action follows Daihatsu Motors Japan's entanglement in a safety test manipulation scandal. Moga Simatupang, Trade Ministry's Director General of Consumer Protection and Trade Compliance, said the Transportation Ministry conducts the sampling process. He also admitted to seeking clarification from PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM). "While waiting, consumers are encouraged to remain calm and continue using their vehicles as usual," he said on Jan 1.
Johan, ADM Executive Officer of the Corporate Function Directorate, claimed that all Daihatsu vehicles manufactured, distributed, and marketed in Indonesia do not have any quality or safety issues. According to him, ADM's production output has complied with the regulations in Indonesia, with domestic deliveries commencing from Dec 22, 2023. ADM also resumed exports on Dec 26, 2023, to over 60 destination countries. "The alleged products in question are assuredly not traded in Indonesia," he stated.
