Summary

Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has launched an eco-friendly electric-based transportation mode in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN Nusantara). One of the operators involved is the Blue Bird Group, which has invested Rp 250 billion to develop the public transportation system in IKN Nusantara. "This will expedite the electric-based public transportation system development," Jokowi said on Dec 21.

Conceptualized as a forest city, the construction of IKN Nusantara will prioritize eco-friendly technology, ranging from green buildings and energy to green transportation. "The investment made by the Blue Bird Group will be utilized for the development of an eco-friendly transportation system, including procuring electric bus rapid transit to support urban services, electric taxis, electric rental cars, and bus routes from Balikpapan to IKN," Jokowi explained.

Adrianto Djokosoetono, the CEO of Blue Bird Group, mentioned that this investment decision aligns with their commitment to support eco-friendly initiatives through the 50:30 sustainability vision, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by up to 50 percent by 2030. "With this investment, we aim to be pioneers in electric-based public transportation in IKN," he affirmed.
