Indonesia Sets High Call for Coal Production Target in 2024

The Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry targets coal production to reach 710 million tons in 2024. Irwandy Arif, Special Staff to the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, stated that the projected output for the following year exceeds this year's target of 694.5 million tons. "Coal production is aimed at 710 million tons, with domestic demand set at 220 million tons," he said on Dec 19.

Irwandy highlighted that achieving this production target will drive coal utilization in the domestic electricity and industrial sectors. According to the Energy Ministry's data, as of Dec 19, domestic coal production realized 734.12 million tons, equivalent to 105.7 percent of the target. Meanwhile, coal exports reached 372 million tons out of the targeted 460 million tons, representing 80.87 percent realization.
