Pertamina-TEPCO HD to Develop Geothermal-based Hydrogen Facility
Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) and Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Incorporated (TEPCO) have inked a collaborative agreement on low-carbon hydrogen and low-carbon ammonia development in Tokyo on Dec 15. Dannif Danusaputro, CEO of Pertamina NRE, highlighted that this agreement outlines the structure and timeline of the inaugural project slated for implementation in 2024.
According to Dannif, Pertamina NRE and TEPCO are gearing up for the construction of a green hydrogen production facility at the Lahendong Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) in North Sulawesi, owned by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGEO). "Pertamina NRE and TEPCO are leveraging Indonesia's abundant geothermal resources for cost-efficient and beneficial hydrogen and ammonia production," he said on Dec 18.
Chikara Kojima, Executive Vice President of TEPCO, said TEPCO has been producing hydrogen in Yamanashi Prefecture since 2016, boasting cutting-edge technological expertise. "We're thrilled that our technology can contribute to the decarbonization initiative in Indonesia, particularly through our collaboration with Pertamina NRE, a leading green energy company in Southeast Asia," Kojima stated.
