Govt Insists Renewables Special Agency Irrelevant from Meritocracy

Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif has opposed the House of Representatives' (DPR) proposal for creating a specialized business entity for renewable energy management within the upcoming New and Renewable Energy Bill (RUU EBET) framework. Arifin's rejection reflects adherence to President Joko Widodo's instructions on bureaucratic simplification and institutional restructuring.
Furthermore, Arifin emphasized that the current regulatory framework, specifically under Presidential Regulation No. 97/2021 regarding the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, already delegates the responsibility for implementing new renewable energy policies. "The government recommends against establishing a new special entity for renewable energy management in the RUU EBET," he stated in a working session with the DPR's Commission VII on Nov 20.
