Indonesia is a President’ Approval Away from Having Nuclear Body

Member of the National Energy Council (DEN) Herman Darnel stated that the government needs to establish the Nuclear Energy Program Implementation Organization (NEPIO) to continue the potential development of nuclear power plants (PLTNs). NEPIO is an agency tasked with preparing for the construction of PLTN, and its formation requires approval from President Joko Widodo. "Its leader is the president," he said, as quoted by CNBC Indonesia on Nov 14.
According to Herman, the establishment of NEPIO is a common practice for a country starting a nuclear program. Furthermore, the formation of NEPIO is also recommended by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Herman said researchers from the National Nuclear Energy Agency, which has now been merged into a research organisation under the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), could be incorporated into NEPIO.
