Masela Block New Development Plan: CCS Facilities and Soaring Costs
Inpex Masela Ltd, together with PT Pertama Hulu Energi Masela consortium, has submitted a revised Plan of Development (PoD) for the LNG Abadi project in the Masela Block to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry. The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force’s (SKK Migas) Deputy for Exploration, Development and Work Area Management Benny Lubiantara said they are evaluating the new PoD. He mentioned that they are mainly waiting for changes in participating interests, which is a crucial point.
According to Benny, there are several crucial points in the revised PoD, including a commitment to achieving commercial operations by 2029 and plans to install carbon capture and storage (CCS). In the new PoD proposal, he added, the additional investment for CCS amounts to US$1 billion. However, there have not been significant changes in other investments related to upstream oil and gas activities in the field. The Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif previously stated that the evaluation of the Abadi Field PoD could be completed soon, allowing the development and production phases to commence promptly.
