JETP Indonesia Plan: Captive Coal Power Out, Emission Target Revised
Indonesia's Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) Secretariat has released the draft of the Comprehensive Investment and Policy Plan (CIPP) for public consultation before its finalization. Edo Mahendra, Head of the JETP Secretariat in Indonesia, stated, “We would like the public to have access to the draft before it is finalized, in the hopes of receiving as many inputs as possible. This way, JETP upholds the principles of transparency, accountability, and participation.”
The draft is available to the public on the official JETP website, www.jetp-id.org. The public can provide their comments via a form on the website until November 14th, and these will be collated and processed by the JETP Secretariat. The final CIPP is expected to be launched in Indonesia before the world's largest diplomatic event on climate change, the 28th Conference of Parties (COP), to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, at the end of this year.
It's important to note that the CIPP is a live document that will be updated annually to reflect the latest global economic conditions and domestic development priorities. It is similar in nature to the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) created and continuously updated by PLN based on assessments of the influencing factors.
JETP represents a US$20 billion energy transition agreement between Indonesia’s government and developed nations or the International Partners Group (IPG). This agreement was reached on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Bali in November 2022. The IPG includes the governments of Japan, the United States of America, Canada, Denmark, the European Union, the Federal Republic of Germany, the French Republic, Norway, the Republic of Italy, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
