EU Uses New Approach to Assist Indonesia in Speed Up Energy Transition
The European Union countries, part of Team Europe, have allocated 2.4 billion euros, or US$2.5 billion, to support Indonesia's energy transition. The European Union Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. Denis Chaibi said EU leaders are determined to accelerate the energy transition in the face of climate change and energy security threats.
Denis also mentioned that the energy transition in Europe has proven to be one of the largest future job providers. He emphasised that the European Union cannot work alone and that global partnerships are needed. Team Europe can rely on the Global Gateway, a resource that consolidates various financial initiatives, financial institutions of member states, and the European Investment Bank, which supports bilateral interests with partner countries.
Team Europe committed to this funding within the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) framework. Denis highlighted that what is needed now is political commitment, ambition, and the right projects. Indonesia has significant potential in renewable energy, and the European Union hopes to enhance its partnership with Indonesia. Meanwhile, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry's Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Yudho Dwinanda Priaadi emphasised how Indonesia is maximising the availability and reach of renewable energy, including through the super grid program.
