How Jokowi Plans to Solve Transportation Issues with a New Institution

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has instructed Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan to establish an institution that integrates public transportation modes in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.
Luhut said that Jokowi asked ministries, institutions, and regional governments to unify public transportation modes under one organization. “So don’t be divided, there are state-owned companies, regional governments, central government,” he said on Sept 27.
This new institution will regulate various aspects, such as how consumers can purchase season tickets or monthly tickets for all modes of transportation. He said that the government hopes this will encourage people to reduce private vehicles. “I think within a month, the president will give us orders to prepare the organizational form and what the subsidies will look like,” he said.
