Flood of Support: Is Indonesia Ready to Enter the OECD?
Indonesia’s bid to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has received support from several countries, including the Netherlands and France. Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Bruins Slot expressed his support when he met with his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsudi, on the sidelines of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, on Sept. 22. Retno said that Slot hoped that Indonesia’s membership in the OECD would help address global challenges.
French Ambassador to Indonesia Fabien Panone also conveyed his support at a meeting at the Defense University on Sept. 22. Panone said that Indonesia’s plan to join the OECD was crucial for enhancing its international role. “We face many issues that require multilateral solutions. We welcome Indonesia’s candidacy to the OECD,” Panone said. He added that French President Emmanuel Macron had also expressed his support when he met with Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the G20 Summit.
