Reserves Dwindling, Nickel Mining Restrictions in Effect?

The government has decided not to approve any additional work plan and budget (RKAB) quotas for nickel mining until the end of 2023.
This decision is related to the investigation of illegal mining in the Mandiodo Block, which led to the postponement of the additional RKAB quota for nickel mining recently.
Energy Ministry’s Deputy for Mining Investment Septian Hario Seto said that the new mining quota application system will be open for nickel miners starting from October, and they can submit their applications from November onwards. “The government will process the quota for 2024,” he said, as reported by Reuters on Sept 20.
Septian also said that some nickel factories had reduced or halted their production due to ore shortages.
