ASEAN Leaders Wrap Up 43rd Summit with 90 Documents, New Opportunities

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo concluded the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta on Sept 7. He said the meeting reached a consensus after a long and difficult process.

“Every just leader has a big responsibility to avoid creating new conflicts and tensions and to provide space for dialogue,” he said.

Jokowi also handed over the ASEAN chairmanship to Laos for 2024, ending Indonesia’s presidency. He said the Summit produced 90 documents and several concrete agreements with partner countries in 12 meetings over three days.

“Let us continue to strengthen collaboration and cooperation for a peaceful and prosperous ASEAN and make the world a better place for all,” he said.
