JETP Impasse: Indonesia Seeks Alternative Donors for Energy Transition

JETP
Summary

The continuation of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) scheme raises questions.

Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said the government did not want to be too dependent on the JETP funding promise for early retirement of coal-fired power plants (PLTU).

“So, we are looking for other donors now,” he said at the Bloomberg CEO Forum at ASEAN in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Luhut also said that the energy transition funds from the JETP scheme are currently unclear. In fact, he said, the proposal to carry out an energy transition is an agenda echoed by developed countries that are members of the G7 group.

“They asked us to make it, so we did it. Those who promised the money, now where is the money?” he said.
