Summary

PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) is reportedly invested in Singapore-based e-commerce startup Carousell.

Quoting DealStreetAsia in the Sept 2 edition, it was mentioned that GoTo injected its investment under the allotment scheme or share allotment of US$2.89 million.

GoTo was also mentioned to have bought Carousell through another Singapore-based company. However, both Carousell and GoTo management refused to elaborate further on the transaction.

Carousell is a secondhand goods marketplace platform that has earned unicorn status. The status was earned after Carousell received US$100 million of funding in 2021 from various investors, namely 500 Global, Golden Gate Ventures, Naver and Bank DBS, among others. Carousell has been operating in Indonesia since 2014 and one of the features dubbed “Sell to Carousell” facilitates electronic goods transactions.
