Smelter
Summary

PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (INCO) has forged a collaboration with Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co Ltd and PT Huali Nickel Indonesia for the development of a nickel processing facility.

Together, they will construct a nickel smelter utilizing High-Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) technology. The project's target output is 60,000 tons of nickel and 5,000 tons of cobalt annually.

Vale Indonesia CEO Febriany Eddy explained that the smelter will produce nickel and cobalt in the form of mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP), a raw material for electric vehicle batteries.

"This project will process limonite-type nickel ore from the Sorowako Block. The HPAL plant will be located in Malili, Luwu Timur, South Sulawesi," Febriany said on Friday.
