Defense Ministry Continues to Enjoy Big Chunk in 2024 Budget
According to the 2024 State Budget Draft (RAPBN), the Defense Ministry would earn Rp 135.44 trillion, the second largest after the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry, which would secure Rp 146.98 trillion.
In the Work Plan and Budget Collection Book for State Ministries/Agencies (RKAKL) for the 2024 Fiscal Year, the Defense Ministry’s budget is slightly below the realized budget of 2023.
The document states that in 2023 the Defense Ministry would earn Rp 144.26 trillion due to the procurement of an additional budget of Rp 5.08 trillion and a domestic loan to support the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) weapons spending of Rp 4.31 trillion.
In his Aug 16 speech, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo emphasized that the State Budget played a vital role in enhancing economic, social, and national defense and security capabilities.
“We will continuously encourage our defense and security industry to be independent with the support of the State Budget and to meet our weapons needs in stages with the help of our defense industry to achieve our minimum essential force,” Jokowi said.
