President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has offered a golden visa to the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman,  the architect behind the ChatGPT AI app. The golden visa is a special visa for foreign nationals with high intellectual capacity, such as researchers and influential people.

Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said Sam Altman qualified for the golden visa because he often visited Indonesia. “He has a high intellectual capacity. He has research from top universities. He is an influential person,” Luhut said.

The golden visa has more benefits than a regular visa. It significantly simplifies immigration progress, allows longer stays, and facilitates citizenship applications.
