Indonesia Secures Third-highest Biodiesel Producer Position

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry announced that Indonesia has secured third rank in the world in biofuel production, following the United States and Brazil.
According to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2022, the United States produced 643,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOEPD) of biofuels in 2021, followed by Brazil with 376,000 BOEPD.
Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi said that Indonesia’s biofuel production reached 174,000 BOEPD in 2021. This is higher than Thailand’s production of 51,000 BOEPD.
Yudo highlighted the potential of biofuels in reducing carbon emissions from the energy system. He said that five ASEAN countries have adopted biofuel blending policies, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
“As a member of ASEAN, we are aware of the biofuel potential to decarbonize the energy system. To date, five countries have implemented the blending of biofuels,” Yudo said at the ASEAN Renewable Energy International Seminar at Westin Jakarta on Wednesday.
