BSN to Play Pivotal Roles in Shaping EV Batteries Future

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has revealed that the National Standardization Agency (BSN) is currently standardizing electric vehicle batteries.
Special Staff to the Energy Minister for the Acceleration of Industrial Development Agus Tjahajana Wirakusumah said that standardization must accommodate inputs from producers, consumers, and the government.
The standardization will cover several aspects, such as the similarity of battery performance benchmarks. “[However], determining standard battery sizes is a bit difficult because the types of electric motorbikes vary,” Agus said on Wednesday.
National Battery Research Institute (NBRI) Founder Evvy Kartini has asked the government to issue battery standardization regulations to increase electric motorbike sales. “Our study shows that currently, there are 20 different lithium-ion batteries. Both in terms of volume, output capacity, and performance,” she said
