Konjac Plant in West Lombok: Rezka Nayatama’s Journey to Export Market
PT Rezka Nayatama has launched a porang tuber (konjac) processing factory in Sekotong District, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
The factory, which cost Rp 70 billion, is the first in Indonesia to produce high-quality glucomannan flour with 90 percent content and use industry 4.0 technology.
The factory, which NTB Governor Zulkieflimansyah inaugurated, can process 483 tons of porang tubers per month. It aims to produce 240 tons of glucomannan flour per year.
PT Rezka Nayatama Director Moshe Panjaitan said that porang tuber products have a huge global demand.
Porang plants grow in Indonesian forests, such as in NTB. The company collaborates with local farmers in several provinces to supply the raw materials. “This factory not only adds value to porang tuber food products but also meets the needs of konjac flour and glucomannan. Through the partnership program, we are helping to improve the welfare of local farmers,” Moshe said.
PT Rezka Nayatama President Director Samuel Haposan Siahaan added that the company chose to build its production facilities near the largest porang tuber-producing areas in Indonesia, namely NTB, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and Bali.
The company pays market prices for porang tubers from partner farmers.
Currently, porang tubers from farmers are worth Rp 4,000 per kilogram (kg). Samuel hoped that the presence of a porang tuber factory in NTB would stabilize the commodity prices at the farm level.
The company will target both domestic and export markets for its porang tuber products, such as konjac glucomannan and konjac flour.
