Indonesia-China Aligned Interest Behind BYD and Chery Investment Plan

This news was leaked by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.

Jokowi will be in China for two days from Jul 27 to Jul 28. His main agenda is a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping, along with attending meetings with various business leaders, according to BYD. "BYD may invest in Indonesia. On Jul 27, we will meet them in Chengdu during President Jokowi's trip to China," Luhut said on Tuesday, Jul 25.

Earlier, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang had already visited BYD's headquarters from Jul 3 to Jul 6. These visits were a follow-up after the company signed a preliminary agreement with the Indonesian government last May to produce electric cars in the country.
