Korean Firm Starts Environmental Study on Bongka Hydropower Plant

Summary

PT Bongka Nova Energi, part of a consortium with a South Korean investor, has finally started an environmental impact analysis (Amdal) on the hydropower Plant (PLTA) project on the Bongka River, Tojo Una Una Regency, Central Sulawesi.

The development plan for the 275-megawatt plant has been around since 2019. The investment required to complete the project is estimated to reach around US$650 million to US$700 million.

Tojo Una Regent Una Mohammad Lahay hoped every stakeholder will participate in the public outreach and help formulate the AMDAL document. "The public outreach for the AMDAL is mandated by the Environment and Forestry Ministerial Regulation No. 4/2021 on businesses and or activities that need environmental impact studies," he said.
